Skipping this step can lead to costly returns, brand reputation damage, and missed delivery deadlines. This checklist provides a structured approach for brands to evaluate bag samples with precision.

Pre-Inspection Setup

Before you begin, gather the following tools and documents:

  • Tech pack or specification sheet – includes approved measurements, material codes, and construction details.
  • Measuring tape or ruler – calibrated for accuracy.
  • Color standard (Pantone or physical swatch) – for color matching.
  • Scale – to verify weight if critical.
  • Magnifying glass or loupe – for stitch and hardware detail checks.
  • Camera or smartphone – to document findings.

Step 1: Visual & Material Inspection

Start with a broad visual assessment. Examine the bag under natural or consistent lighting. Look for:

  • Color consistency – compare the main fabric, lining, and trims against the approved standard. Even slight variations can be noticeable in bulk production.
  • Fabric defects – check for pulls, snags, uneven dyeing, or weaving irregularities.

Step 7: Packaging & Labeling Compliance

  • Polybag – ensure the bag is not too tight (can cause creasing) and that any warning labels (e.g., choking hazard) are present.
  • Shipping carton dimensions – if provided, verify that the sample fits into the planned master carton without excessive compression.

Final Decision & Documentation

After completing the checklist, assign a status to the sample:

  • Approved – all criteria pass. Proceed to bulk production.
  • Approved with conditions – minor issues (e.g., handle drop length) are noted and must be corrected in the next pre-production sample.
